XVII. ICPC Was Held In Istanbul
05.11.2013
The 17th International Coal Preparation Congress (ICPC) was held between 1-6 October, 2013, at Grand Cevahir Hotel And Convention Center, in Istanbul, Turkey. It was the first time that an ICPC was organized in Turkey since the 1st ICPC in 1950 in Paris, France.
The ICPC aims to bring together experts from around the world to discuss the recent advances and developments in coal preparation and quality improvement technologies. It has been organized every four years in a different country until 2010 under the leadership of the International Organizing Committee (IOC). Starting with the 17th ICPC in 2013, the ICPC’s will be held in every three years. The 16th ICPC was held in Lexington, Kentucky, USA in 2010; the next, the 18th ICPC, will take place in St. Petersburg, Russia in 2016. The IOC of ICPC consists of 12 full members and 4 corresponding members from leading coal producing countries.
Generally, the topics discussed in the ICPC’s cover a large area from characterization of the coal to waste disposal. The papers in the 17th ICPC were no different. However, topics related to water use/reuse which have attracted increasingly more attention in recent years, stood out. In this regard, dry processing and dewatering seem to continue to be of great interest in many areas of the world.
Around 525 participants coming from 25 different countries have attended the congress. 121 papers selected from around 230 abstracts have been presented in two parallel sessions during the four days of the congress. All the papers presented were published as soft and hard copy.
Equipment manufacturers, material and service suppliers to the coal preparation industry took part in the exhibition which was on display concurrently with the congress.
The 17th ICPC with solid technical and programs will be remembered as one of the most memorable congresses. It was realized through a strong support from home and abroad.
