School of Law Students Successfully Represent AU at Vis Moot

Our School of Law team participated, and successfully represented our University, in the thirty-first Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot this year between 22-28 March 2024, in Vienna and among the 373 different universities also participating, following their preparatory competitions in Madrid.

Among our School of Law students; Berrin Karadeniz, Ahmet Barış Seçgin, İlkem Binbirçiçek and Yiğit Özen participated as speakers, and Beyza Bayındır, İzgi Biçer and İhsan Batuhan Soydan participated as researchers and writers in the Moot. Our team prepared under the facilitation of Dr. Ogün Erşan Aydınlı and RA Yiğitcan Çankaya.    After completing the writing of the plaintiff and defendant petitions, our team received 500/ 600 points in the pre-moots held in Madrid between February 28 - March 1, 2024, and successfully completed the hearings in Vienna between March 22-26, 2024. Our students, receiving 3.25/ 4.00 points with the defendant’s petition, competed against New York University, National University of Rosario, Addis Ababa University and Directorate of Legal Studies, and Tamil Nadu University.

 Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot is known as the most prestigious international commercial arbitration court case competition around the world. With Hong Kong and Vienna stages every year, the competition offers students a very comprehensive experience in both the literature and the practice on an international scale. With the opportunity to meet respected doyens in the continental European school in particular, students envisioning a career in international commercial arbitration and those who are interested in the field, are granted the chance to gain a unique experience in the field during hearings where practice and theory come together.
