The 2nd UNISEC-Global Meeting and Mission Idea Contest

Atılım University together with Aselsan Company participated in the 3rd Mission Idea Contest (MIC-3) organized at the 2nd UNISEC Global Meeting at Kyutech (Kyushu Institute of Technology)/Kitakyushu/Japan during 17-20 November 2014 under the supervisor of Assoc.Prof.Dr. Sedat NAZLIBİLEK who is the academician at the Faculty of Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering Department of Atılım University. Dr. Sedat NAZLIBİLEK presented the project named “Pardus-Sat”.
This project aims to track PARDUS (Anatolian Leopard) existence and their movements in specific time periods. Fully prepared nano-sat can observe selected areas and send instant information to the ground control base. By the help of this technology we hope that there will be no more illegal hunting on PARDUS.
The mission objectives of the project are as follows: PARDUS-SAT is a special purpose nano-sat system that aims to provide aerial observation to protect Anatolian leopard (PARDUS) from illegal hunting. Main objective is to observe the selected area to get information about PARDUS and determine their behavior during specific time periods. Objectives list is as follows; Scanning and finding PARDUS in their natural habitat; Collecting information by using camera module in colored images and sending them to the ground control base station; Observe PARDUS movements and create a map of their habitat borders; Observe PARDUS breeding and natural contender relations; Prevent illegal hunting and early warning system in dangerous situations.
The system under the project was designed by the students Ulus Töre ÖZER, Ufuk BOLATBAŞ, Uğur TAŞÇI, Deniz KARAÇOR. The project was directed by Dr. Alime ÖZYILDIRIM who is the Space Systems Director at Aselsan Company. A sertificate was given to the participant at the end of the contest by the General Chairperson Prof. Dr. Shinichi NAKASUKA.
Twelve different universities throughout the world participated in the MIC3.
The idea was the improvement of the previous project named “CanSAT” implemented at the Atılım University by the same students in their MECE 407-408 graduation project. It was the first working satellite system implemented and manufactured at the Laboratories of the Mechatronics Engineering Department.
