Inauguration Ceremony for the Academic Year of 2024-2025

The Inauguration Ceremony for the Academic Year of 2024-2025 saw the attendance of Mr. Mehmet Akif Balta, General Director of State Hydraulic Works.
Among the other attendees of the ceremony that took place at Orhan Zaim Conference Hall were Mr. Yalçın Zaim, the Chairperson of the Board of Trustees; as well as President Prof. Dr. Serkan Eryılmaz, Vice Presidents Prof. Dr. Veli Cengiz Özalp and Prof. Dr. Uğur Baç; Board of Trustees Members Mrs. Zerlin Zaim, Prof. Dr. Ahmet Hikmet Üçışık, Mr. Cengiz Altınkaya, Mr. Dinçer Özer; AU Deans, Heads of Departments, our academic and administrative staff, and our students.
The ceremony that saw the attendance of Mr. Mehmet Akif Balta, General Director of State Hydraulic Works opened with the inauguration speech by President Prof. Dr. Serkan Eryılmaz, following a minute of silence, and the recitation of the Turkish National Anthem, on Wednesday, September 25, 2024.
President Prof. Dr. Serkan Eryılmaz stated that a theme would be determined for each year from this year onwards at the university, and that the theme for this year is “Water". He mentioned that our country is among those in the high risk group that may experience adversities due to climate change, and that a significant decrease in our water resources is expected with climate change, adding “In this context, in the current academic year, we will be building the awareness regarding water efficiency through organizing events, with priority given to innovative projects related to “water” in the projects we will be funding through our internal support programs. In addition, studies will be carried out and supported by our University to develop devices, equipment and materials to ensure efficient use of water.”
The first lecture of the Academic Year was presented by Mr. Mehmet Akif Balta, General Director of State Hydraulic Works, in accordance with this year’s theme, titled “History of Water, Water Saving and the activities of the General Directorate of State Hydraulic Works within the Scope of Water Management”.
Mr. Mehmet Akif Balta detailed the studies throughout history on the use and management of water, from the establishment of the General Directorate of State Hydraulic Works until now. He also informed the audience on the projects undertaken to save our water resources.
The Academic Year Inauguration Ceremony was closed with the presentation of “Academic Promotion Awards, Scientific Publication Awards, and 20th and 10th Service Year Awards”.
We hope that our academic and administrative personnel, our students, and our stakeholders have a successful academic year.
