Course Objectives The idea behind this course is to scrutinize in a scholarly manner how two rifferent approaches to international relations, namely the Kantian cosmopolitanism and Hobbesian/Schmittian “state of nature” theory, encounter with each other in contemporary global contexts.
Course Learning Outcomes The students who succeeded in this course;
  • Can explain the relationship between law (particularly international law) and politics (particularly international politics)
  • Can be solved -by taking advantage of different approaches- issues (and conflicts) raning from regional conflicts to ideas of reforming the structure and processes of international decision-making, especially the UN and the EU
  • Can evaluate the concept of "state intelligence" in the context of the international law.
  • Discuss politics and law relations in modern state understanding.
  • Compare different theories of policy and legal relations in international relations.
Course Content Introduction, conceptualization of international relations as ?politics among nation-states?, conceptualization of international relations as ?trans-national politics?, ?three different conceptions of politcs and two concepts of law?.
