Course Objectives • To be able to list important turning points of design concept • To be able to explain the basic principles of design culture • Explain the relation between art and craft • To be able to explain the traditional, cultural and contemporary dimensions of design • Ability to relate the design to different disciplines
Course Learning Outcomes The students who succeeded in this course;
  • 1- Students use the basic concepts of psychology
  • 2- Students Express the theory of Gestalt
  • 3- Students convey inner and outer factors that affect perceptual process
  • 4- Students demonstrate behaviours towards improving their visual memory and creative sensitivity
Course Content Most important turning points emphasizing the historical period of the concept design; the basic principles of design; the concept modern design, the identity of the designer and art and craft relations; by scrutinizing the cultural ,traditional and modern dimensions, the analysis of the relation of design with the other disciplines.

3 The event of perception. The concepts of centre, border, road and direction "
4 Gestalt theory. Reasoning and intuitive knowledge (Sampling: two- and three-dimensional basic design. Place) "
5 The definition of creativity. Short history, some sources and sampling before trainability of creativity "
6 Methods to improve creativity: General methods, behaviours preventing creativity (sampling and application) "
7 Midterm --
8 Creative analyses and defragmentation method; Morphological analysis technique, quality ordering technique, decision making helpers and redefining (sampling and application) "
9 General analogy and mental simulator processes "
10 Creativity on group scale; general brainstorming method and psychological processes – special topics "
11 Improving synectics or creative power (sampling and application) "
12 Premises to improve synectics or creative power, individual analogy, direct analogy, symbolic analogy, imaginative analogy (sampling and application) "
13 Synectics applications: the analysis of a chosen topic; forming groups, synectics study on the phenomenon of general-special design "
