Course Objectives The purpose of this course is to teach students that communication designing is to analyze the daily life with the designer’s discipline. Additionally to cover the steps and the methods of well-prepared advertisement.
Course Learning Outcomes The students who succeeded in this course;
  • Knows and tells the theory related to advertisement and advertising.
  • Knows, tells and realizes the configuration about advertisement and advertising.
  • Knows and applies the interdisciplinary interaction about the field.
  • Designs and applies advertisements or advertising campaigns individually or in group.
  • Knows and applies the ethical values and the related sanctions.
Course Content The concept of living in the world of advertising; working at an ad agency, task definitions, and relationships, along with the A B C`s of creativity in advertising brief, creative brief, press announcement, advertisement concepts; press advertisement, commercials; presentation and preparation of a campaign.

Weekly Subjects and Releated Preparation Studies

Week Subjects Preparation
1 Discussing what students understand from a visual without wording and what students see from a heading without visuals which are selected from the archive. To start the course by making students realize that nothing is as it seems
2 Overview of the subjects of the course and introduction to basic advertising terminology and notions (ex: Brief, Concept, Teaser, Hardsell, Tagline, P.O.P, etc.)
3 The description of advertising which appeared from the advertisement notion. The instruments of advertising and the main principles. Introducing and discussing the terminology of advertising which has an enriched meaning in American English based words.
4 The represented person, company, product and service of the advertising field, and the relations and the responsibilities between them will be explained.
5 The staff of advertisement sector, their job descriptions and relations will be told.
6 Covering and consolidating the values that cause, feed and maintain the creativity. Play. Language. Humor. Art.
7 Creative communication: the story of creativity surrounded with which information and skills will be taught.
8 Midterm
9 To introduce with the source-message-target customer trio by the arc- arrow-apple metaphor. To consolidate the importance of analyzing the source ( brief) and the apple ( target customer) in order to create the message
10 Communication: common ground of love, literature, politics and advertising which seems completely different branches. necessary main information about current communication values.
11 Brief. Analyzing the informative report which is given for the message to be designed, through the real samples in detail.
12 Studying on the real samples to learn and understand how the client’s brief is transferred to creative brief to start the creativity stage.
13 Studying the basic advertisement tools such as slogan, press release, outdoor, jingle, advertisement film and campaigns by observing the real project samples.
14 After defining the main truths, students are going to be divided into unit agency groups. The students are going to prepare a presentation realted to current actual brief including slogan, press release, advertisement film and finally a campaign. They are going to be criticized.
15 The final campaign projects are going to be evaluated by the help of the classmates and the moderating of the instructor.
