Course Objectives Editing a translated text for various institutions requires special effort and preparation. It is an indisputable fact that the traditional editor, whose approach to the problems of translated texts is limited by the knowledge of just one language, is not adequate in an ever-globalizing world. Translation editing requires a deeper understanding of both source and target language systems, a throughout awareness of problems peculiar to translation process, and experience that will enable an editor to overcome such problems. Since translation editing and copy-editing requires specialization, this course will delve on the conditions of publishing, copy-editing translations, proofreading, and also legal issues of publishing, along with the study of Turkish language in detail.
Course Learning Outcomes The students who succeeded in this course;
  • Will identify translational errors and improper uses of target language.
  • Will correct form-related (lexical and structural ambiguities, syntactic errors, punctuation mistakes etc.) and content-related (erroneous uses of language, wrong word choice) errors.
  • Will enrich their vocabulary both in Turkish and English.
  • Will learn economic and effective use of language.
Course Content Analysis and practice of editing, grammar, punctuation in literary and non-literary translated texts.
