Course Objectives Consistent terminology ensures creation, storing, maintenance, retrieval, transfer and re-usability of specialized information within certain domains or subject fields. The course aims to introduce fundamental concepts of terminology such as term formation rules and concept orientation. The students make use of state-of-art terminological applications such as free and commercial Computer Aided Translation and Terminology Management Systems during the course.
Course Learning Outcomes The students who succeeded in this course;
  • Will learn to distinguish terms from everyday words
  • Will practice their terminological knowledge in various areas such as such politics, EU relations, medicine, law, education, etc.
  • Will learn concept-oriented terminological approach as opposed to traditional lexicographical methods
  • Will gain necessary skills to create their data categories, compile their terminological resources and eventually, to create a basic termbase.
  • Will practice using computerized Terminological Management Systems (TMS) and Computer Aided Translation Tools (CAT)
