Course Objectives The course serves as the basic course for preparing the students for simultaneous interpreting. In this regard, it targets to develop skills related with listening comprehension, analytical thinking, paraphrasing and self-monitoring. Furthermore, it aims to develop the memory and retention skills of the students through different exercises which will help for better simultaneous interpreting
Course Learning Outcomes The students who succeeded in this course;
  • Will develop memory and retention skills.
  • Will improve analytical thinking skills covering the skills to understand the basic points of the messages embedded in the conference or any kind of speech text..
  • Will learn the basic simultaneous interpreting strategies such as generalization, omission, labeling or finding pat phases.
  • Will develop skills to manage their stress and work collaborately with their colleagues during simultaneous interpreting.
  • Will improve dual task skills including listening and producing the same message in the target language.
  • Will enhance their terminology knowledge by practicing with speeches on various topics.
Course Content Simultaneous interpreting of various speeches on different topics; booth manners; stress management during simultaneous interpreting; coping strategies for simultaneous interpreting.
