Course Objectives This course primarily aims to familiarise students with works of detective genre. The course also aims at informing students about the thematic and structural elements of detective fiction produced in different periods. Beginning from the exemplary works of classical detective fiction to contemporary ones, the course will discuss the change in various components (character, narration, space, time, plot) of detective fiction. The selected short stories and novels will be helpful to have a solid understanding of the changes in the genre. The course will lay particular emphasis on such topics as suspense, mystery solving, murder-mystery, investigation, search for truth, problem solving steps of the clever detective figure, punishment-restoring order and justice in society.
Course Learning Outcomes The students who succeeded in this course;
  • will be familiarised with the thematic and structural elements of detective fiction produced in different periods.
  • Beginning from the exemplary works of classical detective fiction to contemporary ones, the students will be able to discuss the change in various components (character, narration, space, time, plot) of detective fiction.
