Course Objectives This course primarily aims to provide the students an understanding and knowledge of Contemporary American Fiction in the historical, aesthetic and social context and to make them analyze literary works and their contexts. The course aims to make the students read and analyze four representative novels by well-known American novelists as well as some articles (given and assigned by the lecturer) by notable critics to have a better understanding of the course and to explain and describe the major concerns of Contemporary American Fiction. Necessary background information will be provided to students to make them integrate the historical, social and political background with the novels in which they are all depicted. The students are also expected to intermingle their knowledge with the course to have a better perception of the world we are living in by gaining an awareness of interpreting the Contemporary American fiction including analysis of the works.
