Course Objectives This introductory course in political science focuses on first the difference between classical and modern political studies. Dwelling especially on the concepts and categories like power, authority and legitimacy, the course aims at providing the students with adequate methodological understanding which will enable them to understand the fundamentals of diverse theoretical approaches in modern (and post-modern) political theory.
Course Learning Outcomes The students who succeeded in this course;
  • explain the different meanings of ideology.
  • define the characteristics of political ideologies.
  • compare political theorists.
  • exemplify modern political regimes.
  • analyze classical political studies, approaches to power, authority and legitimacy.
Course Content The positivist and non-positivist conceptions of science, concepts like power, authority, sovereignty and the state; a sociological approach to issues brought up by the existence of class and other group differences in society.
