Course Objectives The course aims to help students comprehend the changes in the art and design world, the concepts driving these changes, and their impact on contemporary art. It also aims to analyze and comprehend the art movements that have influenced today's design world.
Course Learning Outcomes The students who succeeded in this course;
  • Understand the development process of art movements while remembering world history, society and culture.
  • Recognize artists and their works; develop the ability to comment on works of art.
  • Compare and criticize different art movements within the historical continuity in the context of the relationships between them.
  • Apply the knowledge acquired to develop and refine design concepts.
Course Content The course focuses on the transformation in the world of art and design in Europe and America from the second half of the 19th century onwards. It covers all art movements that have emerged since the Impressionism Movement and their impact on contemporary art. The process of transformation from classical to contemporary art is explained from a worldhistorical, socio-cultural, sociological, and philosophical perspective.
