Course Objectives The course aims to explore the formation and development processes of historical places, the physical structure of the city, the relationship between interior space and the environment. It aims to examine architecture and art history by considering geography, culture, materials, and socio-economic context.
Course Learning Outcomes The students who succeeded in this course;
  • Learn the formation, design features, historical process and geography of the selected places.
  • Learn the factors that influence the spatial formation of the Anatolian-Turkish city and the functional development resulting from changes in these factors in and around the area.
  • Gain the ability to understand the historical background of buildings and make predictions about the future.
  • Gain an awareness of how to preserve historic sites.
  • Gain the ability to compare with historical places in Europe.
Course Content The course examines historical places se-lected from the ancient period, Europe and the Turkish-Islamic world, exploring their archi-tectural, geographical, cultural and social significance considering housing and set-tlements. It discusses the characteristics of the selected buildings in the context of urban history, architecture and art history.
