Course Objectives The aim of lesson is to enable students to understand the importance of cognitive development in human life, to understand the relationship of cognitive development with other areas of development, to know basic concepts in cognitive development, to perceive developmental processes and to prepare programs that support cognitive development in line with the child's needs.
Course Learning Outcomes The students who succeeded in this course;
  • At the end of the course, students; will have knowledge about cognitive development and cognitive development processes and will gain knowledge and experience about cognitive development assessment of children and supportive studies. In this context, students will learn about the following topics. He/she comprehends the organization in the basic brain structures, explains the basic concepts of cognitive development.
  • He/she recognizes the basic principles of cognitive development theories, summarizes and compares theories in terms of cognitive development.
  • He/she lists the factors affecting cognitive development, explains cognitive development stages according to age.
  • He/she recognizes cognitive development evaluation, defines developmental risks in terms of cognitive development in different developmental periods.
  • He/she defines intelligence and explains methods of measuring intelligence, summarizes cognitive development processes and what is effective in these processes, summarizes child assessment in terms of cognitive development.
  • He/she explains the importance of cognitive development in the developmental process of the child, defines the relationship between cognitive development and other areas of development.
  • He/she prepares and implements programs that support cognitive development in line with the needs of the child.

  • Recognizes the basic principles about theories regarding language development. Summarizes and compares theories in terms of language development
  • Explains the stages of language development according to age.
  • Explains the factors affecting language development. Defines and explains the components of language (Phonology, Morphology, Syntax, Semantics, Pragmatics). Recognizes the evaluation of language development. Explains the relationship of language development with cognitive development and other areas of development. Explains the importance of language development in the child's development process
Course Content The structure, function and deterioration of the brain lobes, basic concepts of cognitive development, cognitive development theories, information processing theories, definitions and measurement of intelligence, factors affecting cognitive development, processes in cognitive development, cognitive development by age, developmental risks and safety issues in terms of cognitive development in different developmental periods.
