Course Objectives The aim of this course is to enable the students to recognize the nursing profession, to learn about the profession's historical development, vocational process, basic concepts, roles and functions, to recognize the importance of ethical principles and professional values.
Course Learning Outcomes The students who succeeded in this course;
  • Identifies the definition, philosophy, roles and functions of nursing.
  • Describes the relationship of basic concepts such as health, illness, human and environment to nursing.
  • Describes the relationship between Concept-Model-Theory in nursing.
  • Analyzes the historical processes affecting the development of nursing in Turkey and the world.
Course Content Historical development and definition of nursing, nursing philosophy and occupation process, roles and functions of nursing, nursing theory and theoreticians, ethical values, nursing education, health care system and role of nurse in health team, basic concepts in nursing, human rights and patient rights, professional organizations, laws and regulations.
