Course Objectives This course provides the basic knowledge on the particle physics which is necessary in the research of high energy physics. It supplies a basis about the particles and their interactions. The course is aiming to prepare the students for the graduate level researches. Establishing firm physics and math foundation, the course improves the student’s problem solving skills in the related area.
Course Learning Outcomes The students who succeeded in this course;
  • To gain a historical overview of the development of elementary particle physics
  • To be able to explain basic knowledges about the standard model
  • To explain the characteristics of the electromagnetic, strong and weak interactions and the differences between them
  • To be able to perform calculations using relativistic kinematics to obtain energies, momenta and masses in particle interactions
  • To be able to use Feynman diagrams to describe interactions
  • To develop skills in formulating and solving physics problems related to particle physics
Course Content Historical Introduction to the Elementary Particles, Elementary Particle Dynamics, Relativistic Kinematics, Symmetries, Bound States, The Feynman Calculus, Quantum Electrodynamics.
