Course Objectives The main objective of the course is to teach the students the approaches and the principles of literary translation in theory and practice through the translation of especially prose fiction (short story and novel). Students learn the text type qualities linguistically and extralinguistically and they analyse literary texts according to the characteristics of their genre for translation purposes. Literary and theoretical studies are also an integral part of this course. The course is conducted in both languages.
Course Learning Outcomes The students who succeeded in this course;
  • To acquire the knowledge of how to analyze literary texts linguistically for translation purposes
  • To gain an insight into the qualities of literary genre.
  • To acquire an awareness of the qualities of a literary translator
  • To practice and learn the steps of literary translation
  • To gain an insight into teh difficulties of literary translation and how to overcome them
  • To develop literary translation skills
Course Content Theoretical articles on literature and literary translation such as Bassnett`s, Aksoy`s and Lefevere`s; translation of novel and short story.
