Course Objectives | It will help students understand the basic concepts used in the international organization studies both in Turkish and English and translate various types of international organisation texts such as judgements, decisions, statutes (founding treaties of the international organisations) and international agreements. As an example of texts regarding relations with a member country, Turkey will be of concern. The course will include topics such as the nature and characteristics of the statutes, agreements and judgements as well as the sources of difficulty in their translation. Students will be asked to do the readings for the course, translate texts for each class as well as to present them to the class. On successful completion of this course, the students will be familiar with the styles and terminology used in the texts of international organisations, be able to translate various types of the texts of the international organisations such as the United Nations, the Council of Europe, the World Trade Organisation, the OSCE, the OECD, the NATO, the World Intellectual Property Organisation and the International Criminal Court, be familiar with the relations of the international organisations with Turkey, and be able to use resources effectively for a specialized translational activity. |
