The Department of Foreign Languages Announces the Successful Integration of Steve Jobs into Curricula and Instruction
“Your time is limited, so don't waste it living someone else's life. Don't be trapped by dogma - which is living with the results of other people's thinking. Don't let the noise of other's opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary” Steve Jobs proclaimed in his commencement speech delivered at Stanford University in 2005, suggesting a need to make a difference in one’s life. Is it easy to make a difference in our life? How can we make it? Does it really worth it? What if I do not know what I truly want to be? These and more questions are open to discussion and, as a university, we provide a comfortable and constructive discussion environment to encourage discussion and sharing of ideas.
One Book One Topic Program initiated in the Spring semester of 2012 is one of the programs enabling a a campus-wide discussion and sharing environment among students, faculty, and staff on a selected book. This year’s selection is Steve Jobs’ biography by Walter Isaacson. The Department of Foreign Languages has designed various Steve Jobs focused activities in line with the expected outcomes of the program and achieved the successful integration of these activities into the curricula. The potential benefits of these activities include, but not limited to, encouraging students to discuss Steve Jobs’ life and the messages he gave; investigating traits, habits, and values characterizing youth entrepreneurship with a special emphasis on Steve Jobs’ achievements and self actualization process; and most importantly developing constructive pressure-free discussion environment for all.
You are highly encouraged to read Steve Jobs’ biography by Walter Isaacson. Make a difference, change your future. Future is bright, future is yours.
